Insulated as Standard

Insulated Garden Rooms in Ireland

Every Modern Garden Room is fully insulated across the walls, floor and roof, so it works as a real room in January, not just a summer house. Designed and built across Dublin & Leinster.

What's Inside the Walls

Insulated on Every Side

A garden room is only as warm as its coldest surface, so we insulate all of them. This is the exact build-up in every room we hand over.

Walls

100mm thermal and sound insulation

Inside 100x45mm stud walls, behind a breather membrane and cedar or larch cladding.

Roof

100mm thermal insulation plus 50mm rigid insulation

Between 150x45mm rafters with a vapour barrier, under a fully sealed fibreglass or torch-on felt finish.

Floor

100mm Kingspan rigid floor insulation

Over treated joists with a damp-proof course, under an 18mm OSB deck and your finished floor.

The full layer-by-layer specification, including cladding, membranes and glazing, is on our specifications page.

Why Insulation Matters

A Real Room, All Year Round

An uninsulated garden building is a shed with nicer cladding: freezing from October to April and an oven in July. Proper insulation is what turns garden space into living space.

  • Comfortable to work or train in every month of the year
  • Cheap to heat: a small heater warms the room quickly and holds the temperature
  • Sound insulation in the walls and roof, not just thermal
  • No cold floor: the floor is insulated to the same standard as the walls

Planning & Cost

Most Rooms Need No Planning Permission

Insulation doesn't change the planning rules: garden rooms up to 25 m² and 3 m high are usually exempt. Size and specification drive the cost.

FAQ

Insulated Garden Room Questions

Are insulated garden rooms warm enough in an Irish winter?

Yes. With 100mm of insulation in the walls, floor and roof, plus thermally efficient glazing, our rooms hold heat the way a modern house room does. A small electric heater is usually all you need.

What insulation do your garden rooms use?

100mm thermal and sound insulation in the walls, 100mm plus 50mm rigid insulation in the roof, and 100mm Kingspan rigid insulation in the floor. Every room also gets a breather membrane, vapour barrier and damp-proof course.

Do insulated garden rooms get too hot in summer?

No. The same insulation that keeps heat in during winter keeps heat out during summer, and glazing is positioned to manage solar gain. The rooms stay comfortable year-round.

Do I need to heat a garden room all the time?

No. Because the room is insulated on every side, it warms up quickly and holds its temperature, so you only heat it when you are using it.

Is every Modern Garden Room insulated?

Yes. Full wall, floor and roof insulation is our standard specification, not an upgrade. See the full build-up on our specifications page.

Do insulated garden rooms need planning permission?

Insulation makes no difference to planning. Most garden rooms up to 25 m² and 3 m high are exempt from planning permission. We confirm the rules for your site during your free visit.
